Bleeding heart emoviolence (or Skramz for those who know) from Bennu is a Heron - the supergroup out of Guangzhou that takes the framework of emo music and charges headfirst into a moshpit. Their newest EP - ‘despite the world is so big, but not a corner belongs to me’ is a volatile but ultimately cathartic web of self-reflection - as the band deals with identity, home, longing, and our ever-changing values - all told via a backdrop of hardcore breakdowns, vocals that turn on a dime between guttural and gentile, and melodies that might you weep. Shifting between hope, despair, love, and hate, it’s messy, it’s brash, and hits a raw nerve.

Gaiwaer 街娃 - It's getting light again

Chengdu hardcore mainstays Gaiwaer received plenty of ammo for their latest album - It's getting light again - over the past year. And while those necessary targets get their proper due (just check out the one missing track on bandcamp to get an idea) what strikes deeper is the band's uncompromising vision of ‘taking a stand’ to the absurdities and the fight against ‘silence’ in all aspects of one life. And painted across a carousel of hardcore music in all its versatility - even gridncore and nu metal get a shout out here - it proves once again Gaiwaer will never have nothing to say.

Brain Mold - Infinitum Infernum

‘Frost-bitten, angst-ridden, blackened crust noise’ straight from the grundle of Beijing’s underground scene, Brain Mold don’t beat around the bush on their debut Infinitum Infernum. Feral, depraved, and insidious, Brain Mold are essentially removing all the fat and pompousness of black metal acts and setting loose a parade of daggers in the form of unkept scales and other crust punk staples. Like a bone jetting out of your forearm - it’s gnarly as can be.
